Working Together

The Moral & Spiritual Ministry does not operate independently during an emergency. It works across the emergency management structure to support the spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being of the people being served and those serving them.

Compassionate Support With Responsible Boundaries

Weather Watchmen recognizes that spiritual support, emotional support, counseling, and professional mental-health treatment are not interchangeable. Volunteers must operate within their level of training, qualifications, and assigned responsibilities.

Do not allow unlicensed volunteers to present themselves as:

Psychologists
Psychiatrists
Licensed professional counselors
Clinical social workers
Medical professionals
Trauma therapists

Volunteers should recognize when an individual's needs exceed their role and connect that person with appropriate professional or emergency resources. For situations involving immediate danger or a mental-health emergency, established emergency and crisis-response procedures should be followed.

Strengthening the Spirit of the Community

Disasters can test people physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Preparedness therefore requires more than supplies and emergency plans. It also requires compassionate people who are prepared to listen, encourage, pray, support, connect, and serve.

If you have a heart to serve, there may be a place for you.

We Watch. We Warn. We Protect.
