About Weather Watchmen
"Watch the Weather"
Weather Watchmen is an initiative of The Millions More Movement (MMM) Houston Local Organizing Committee Emergency Management Taskforce, under the direction and guidance of The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. Inspired by his continuing admonition to "Watch the Weather," Weather Watchmen works to strengthen disaster awareness, preparedness, self-reliance, and resilience within our families and communities.
Why We Do What We Do
Across the United States and throughout the world, communities are experiencing increasingly destructive weather events and natural disasters. Hurricanes, tornadoes, catastrophic flooding, extreme heat, wildfires, drought, winter storms, earthquakes, and other forces of nature can disrupt entire communities with little warning.
History has also shown that not every community receives the same level or speed of assistance during disaster response and recovery. Some neighborhoods may experience extended power outages, delayed restoration of essential services, limited access to food and water, or prolonged periods before outside assistance arrives. During widespread disasters, emergency responders and relief organizations may also be overwhelmed.
For these reasons, we believe families and communities must be prepared to survive and sustain themselves when outside assistance is delayed or unavailable. Preparedness is not about panic. It is about developing the knowledge, supplies, plans, skills, and self-reliance necessary to protect ourselves, our families, and one another.
For Weather Watchmen, these events reinforce a message that has been sounded:
"Watch the weather."
A Warning We Must Not Ignore
The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, Eternal Leader of the Nation of Islam, warned of the significance of the forces of nature and taught that America would experience Divine Judgment through rain, hail, snow, earthquakes and other forces of nature.
His National Representative, The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, has faithfully continued to sound the warning and repeatedly urged people to pay attention to what is occurring in the weather.
"I've been telling you, watch the weather. Every day the weather is getting worse and worse."
— The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan
These warnings call us not only to watch, but also to think, prepare and act.
From Warning to Preparedness
Weather Watchmen was created from the understanding that recognizing the warning carries with it a responsibility to prepare.
When disaster strikes, emergency responders may be overwhelmed. Roads may become impassable. Electricity and water services may be interrupted. Grocery stores and pharmacies may be inaccessible. Communication systems may fail. Assistance may not immediately reach every family or neighborhood.
The time to determine what your family needs is not after disaster strikes.
The time to prepare is now.

WE SEE THE WARNING.
WE WATCH THE WEATHER.
WE PREPARE OUR PEOPLE.
