Role Purpose
Coordinates appropriate prayer and spiritual support for individuals, families, volunteers, responders, and communities experiencing emergencies, displacement, loss, grief, or other difficult circumstances.
What You Would Help Do
Before an Emergency
- Develop a prayer support network.
- Identify volunteers willing to provide spiritual encouragement.
- Establish procedures for requesting prayer or spiritual assistance.
- Participate in preparedness activities.
During an Emergency
- Coordinate prayer support when requested.
- Provide spiritual encouragement and compassionate presence.
- Support displaced families, seniors, grieving families, and volunteers.
- Coordinate spiritual support at shelters or community assistance locations when appropriate.
After an Emergency
- Continue prayer and spiritual support during recovery.
- Support families experiencing grief or significant loss.
- Help reconnect individuals with their local spiritual support networks when appropriate.
Qualifications & Helpful Skills
Who would be a good fit?
Required
- Willingness to complete Weather Watchmen training.
Helpful But Not Required
- Ministry, pastoral, or chaplaincy service
- Faith-based community outreach experience
- Compassion and a comforting presence
- Discretion and respect for different beliefs
Training & Readiness
Volunteers are not expected to respond to emergencies without preparation.
Weather Watchmen volunteers may receive or be asked to participate in role-appropriate training, exercises, orientations, drills, and continuing preparedness activities before being assigned operational responsibilities.

Works with this ministry for spiritual support within shelters and response environments.
Three-Deep Succession
Weather Watchmen's emergency management system is designed around continuity of leadership. Critical functions should have trained Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary personnel so that operations can continue if a primary leader is unavailable.
Multiple volunteers may express interest in the same operational area to build this depth.
